Strawberry Towel

Behind The Design: The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC asked us to come up with a design inspired by their permanent collection. Amy Sherald's painting, They Call Me Redbone But I'd Rather Be Strawberry Shortcake, depicts a colorful portrait of a young girl. Like all of Sherald's portraits it uses greyscale for the skin to metaphorically remove the color of the skintone. Drawn to this piece I pulled from the vibrant colors and incorporated the playfulness of the pattern in her dress into our strawberry design.
